Leggings! Every girl’s go-to while running errands, going to the gym, yoga class, grabbing a coffee, hiking, and just about anywhere such fashion is appropriate. But there’s a big bug – what to wear underneath that wouldn’t cut across your butt. This struggle is so legit that till today, I still find people on the street with leggings on and their panty lines are just screaming at me! No offense obviously, I’m here to help!
There are favorable options on the market that you haven’t considered, so you don’t need to go commando, i.e. no panties. While finding the right underwear to eliminate panty lines under your leggings, you must consider a few things – color, fit and seam.
Color because, some leggings are somewhat transparent and even having fixed the panty line issue, the color, design or pattern of your underwear can stick out and be a bug – unless you’re wearing colored panties on purpose ;). On a serious note though, try to find panties whose colors blend in well with the color of your skin.
Fit because, the wrong underwear size can either dig into your skin, giving you a muffin top or fold/ride up under your leggings and, none of these scenarios are pretty. Never buy underwear before trying them out in the changing room, unless you’re absolutely sure it’s your perfect fit. A size too small, clinches your waist tight, worsens panty lines and leaves muffin-tops, while a size too large, causes your leggings to have wrinkles, and that is equally not cute. Besides, with either scenarios, comfort is completely ruled out. Ideally, you should aim for the perfect fit as this will provide the most comfortable experience.
Seam because, depending on the seam of your underwear, panty line visibility may or may not be a problem. When you have on an underwear with the right seam coupled with it being your perfect fit, panty lines immediately vanish as you put on your leggings. Nobody should be able to tell the exact panties you have on – an underwear with the wrong seam, slices across your buttocks, and immediately gives them away.
So which should you go for?
As you all know, I’m not the type to confuse you with an unending list of ‘too much options’. Once I share a few recommendations along with (hopefully) helpful information on how to pair your leggings with the right kind of underwear, it becomes easy for you to use your initiative when next you visit the lingerie or underwear store.
The best underwear options for your leggings include;
- Thongs: I hope you like thongs! Thongs are basically the ‘majority’ go-to for all kinds of pants. They come in different types by different brands for different purposes. There are lace options, breathable easy-dry options, you name it! Just ensure to bend or squat after putting on your leggings to confirm that the thong is not visibly sticking out above the leggings’ waistline.
Don’t like thongs? Don’t worry!
- Commando panties: The logic behind this underwear is for it to be as though you’re going commando. These panties come with absolutely no seam, except by the sides (which is easily concealed by the sidelines of your leggings). It’s extremely comfortable and feels as though you have nothing on. What’s more exciting is that, some brands have commando underwear that come in beautiful nude color options which essentially blends in with your skin color. There are also commando thongs, although, I wonder why they’re advertised as ‘thongs’. The word thong was used loosely here – trust me, if you’re not a thong person, don’t let the description scare you. I wouldn’t call it a thong at all, it’s just a lot less conservative than the traditional panty.
- Ladies’ hip briefs or boy briefs: Briefs are another easy and comfortable option that banishes panty lines. With the perfect fit that ends just beneath the butt cheeks, any seams will easily be concealed by the natural curves of your butt. A size too big or too long will cause it to ride up as you wear your leggings, while a size too small will lift the briefs above your butt cheek, thereby creating seam lines that cut across your butt and are visible under your leggings.
As you choose panties for your leggings, bear in mind all the considerations I outlined above. Have additional recommendations? Let me know in the comment section below.
Do kindly note in addition, that there are other important factors you should consider, such as, panties that are breathable, anti-odor, ones that are highly absorbent or that regulate moisture.
