I’m guessing you do not know what eye bags or under eye hollows are? What about tear troughs? In case you haven’t heard of it, I will like you to know that tear troughs are the grooves that is located just beneath the eyelid and the cheeks. They create a hollow just between your lower eyelid and your cheek. For most people, tear troughs are genetic and for others, they are caused as a result of ageing. And for the eye bags, they appear on your face as bulges under your lower eyelid it can be filled with fat or fluid. You may think that eye bags are as a result of laxity of the lower eyelid muscles which allows the fat to protrude, mostly they occur due to fat located at the mid-cheek region which slips away from the lower eyelid and then it cause the lower eyelid to look protruded.
However this transition from the eyes to the cheeks gets interrupted due to the presence of eye bags which can be associated with tiredness or ageing. The goodness about this is that, Dermal fillers can help smoothen the transition between the lower eyelid and the cheeks and then it would make the eye bags or tear troughs much less obvious. The amount of Dermal fillers mostly use to fill the tear troughs and the cheek area is about 1 to 2mL.
Now how do you treat your eye bags without the use of surgery? Don’t fret! You can totally reduce the appearance of your eye bags through the injection of temporary dermal filler. Eye bags are often caused by loss of volume in the cheek region. The eye bags then appear bigger and so the increase in the mid cheek can be replaced using dermal fillers.
Meanwhile you can also treat your eye bags through surgical means. Although this is an alternative to dermal fillers. In this treatment, the fat that has been transferred from another part of the body can be used to fill any space/hollow. A minor liposuction is done to take fat from a fatty area like the abdomen and then this fat is then injected right under the eye area. The fat that is transferred now acts like a dermal filler to reform and smoothen the eye area to remove eye bags. However while under filling the eye area, one has to be careful to ensure that the fat transferred isn’t excessive otherwise, surgery might be required to remove the excess fat and it may not be convenient for you because if a surgery is done again to remove the excess fat from the under eyes, the eye area might appear too hollow and end up worsening the eye situation after all.
That’s why I prefer dermal fillers. It is non-surgical and quite safe.
Furthermore, what kind of Dermal fillers should be used for the eye bag/tear trough area? The commonest type of dermal fillers used for the tear trough and eye bag area is one that is made from Hyaluronic acid. This substance comprises of sugar which are linked to give it a gel like consistency. Hyaluronic acid can also be found naturally in some parts of the skin like the eyes and joints in the body.
One wonderful thing about this filler is that it doesn’t affect the skin tissues once it is injected in the eye area and it last for years. However Hyaluronic acid fillers is also hydrophilic in nature. It attracts water.
Just to be sure about this, ensure you see a dermatologist before you undertake this. The doctor helps to make you understand properly all you need to.
