We all are (or at least want to be) Rapunzel. Long hair, short hair. It doesn’t matter. Rapunzel’s hair was magical. And that’s exactly what we want our hair to be, don’t we? Magical. Perfect. And that is why we make so much effort and take so much time taking care of it.
You use the best shampoo there is, you do home treatments (think of that hair mask recipe your friend swears by), and you style it with care every.single.day. But, somehow, someway, it still looks dull, it still breaks, and you just don’t feel ready for your prince to show up. Not with that hair!
It could be a number of things. You could be dehydrated. You could be missing some serious nutrients. Or, it could be that you are one of those who just were not born to brush your hair everyday. Like me!
I’m pretty certain your grandma told you too that you should brush your hair 100 times before going to bed, to make it grow long, shiny and healthy. But maybe that has not been the best advice you have ever heard when it comes to your hair care.
Now, nobody is actually 100% sure that brushing your hair is actually bad for it, but there is definitely some benefit to ditch your bristle. But before I tell you more about it, let me tell you the potential damage you can be doing to your hair when you brush it too often.
While I agree that we all need to detangle our hair everyday, the use of a hairbrush can cause split ends and breakage. This is especially true if you are not using the right brush. Why? Some synthetic materials can cause too much friction. So, if you decide to use a hairbrush in the end, you have to make sure that you use a brush that meets your hair needs according to its type. The best hairbrushes can be a tad expensive, but they are worth the money.
Now this is where the fun part begins! Depending on your hair type(again), this may or may not work for you, but this is what can improve your hair health, length and overall appearance: finger-detangle your hair.
You read that right! So this is what you are going to do: When you get out of the shower, use a leave-in conditioner and finger-detangle your hair while its still wet. If you have fine hair, you can also apply a product for volume, or ant-frizz if you hair is curly or thick. If you have really curly difficult hair, try brushing with a pick. Something really important is not to wrap your hair in a towel since it can causes breakage as well.
Try this for at least one month. You will start noticing healthier, longer hair, easier to style and maintain, it will look better even after a long day, and the best of all, you wont have to own a hairbrush ever again!
