Valentine’s Day is the one holiday that’s totally devoted to couples and romance. However, not all of us are cuffed. Studies are showing that approximately half of all people are not married or in long-term relationships. Does that mean that they should just ignore Valentine’s Day and give Cupid the finger? Of course not!
Galentine’s Day is a new trend that encourages single girls to spend time celebrating friendship on February 14th. It’s a movement that reminds us that getting tied down isn’t the only way to have fun, and openly encourages girls to enjoy the company of one another.

Much like the original V-Day, Galentine’s Day can be celebrated by going out and spending some time together. These ideas are a great way to kick off your Galentine’s Day and win at love.
- Go to a wine tasting together. Sure, there might be couples around you when you hit up a tasting together, but there’s no law saying you can’t enjoy wine with friends on this day. Bonding over wine is always easy and enjoying the buzz will only make Galentine’s Day a little better.
- Hit up a spa together for some peaceful girl time. Nothing ever beats having a day of pampering and fun with your galpals, so why not take advantage of some “me time” together? Most spas have Valentine’s Day packages you can reserve for friends too, so it might be a little cheaper than usual.
- Attend a cooking class together. Cooking classes are educational, fun, and also come with an added perk of having a ready to eat meal at the end of each session. These classes are also awesome because of how much bonding they offer without it being a totally romantic option.
- Check out a new local dance club. Being coupled up is nice, but it definitely impedes on having fun at typical “singles” venues like nightclubs. That’s why going to a dance club with your gal pals just makes a lot of sense on Galentine’s Day. Go out there and cut a rug together!
- Go to a male revue in your town. Want to get a little crazy with your friends on Galentine’s Day? Many major cities have male revues that feature hot guys, cool songs, and some seriously sexy dance moves. If you like the idea of seeing cute guys dancing their hearts out, this is one celebration idea that you won’t forget.
- Hit up that trendy new fitness class. Is it me, or are there new fitness class genres being created every single day? Aerial yoga? Contortion? Lyra dancing? If you and your gal pals are into fitness, there are definitely some new exercise options to choose from. Sweat it out together, and you’ll feel amazing afterwards.
- Have a Galentine’s Day picnic. Admittedly, this isn’t something you can do everywhere in February, but if you live in a warmer climate, a picnic isn’t unreasonable. Just grab a basket of goodies, a bottle (or flask) of wine, and chill out with your buds. You’d be surprised at how much fun it can be.
- Host a Girl Power Party. There’s something oddly empowering about taking control of your Valentine’s Day life by inviting over your favorite chicas, popping some girl-centric movies, partying it up, and talking about the perks of single life. Try it, and you’ll find out why.
- Smoke up! If you are in a 420-friendly state and have female friends who love the herbal stuff, why not have a “Green Galentine’s Day” together? Just go to a dispensary, pick out some interesting things, and enjoy the THC-filled fun.
- Game it up! Though gaming has a reputation as a “boys’ hobby,” the truth is that half of all gamers are female. There’s nothing in the Galentine’s Day rulebook that says you can’t enjoy your day with your friends playing your favorite games. If anything, it might be one of the best ways to prove that le geek, c’est chic!
- Or, just do a gift exchange. Sometimes, it’s not actually doing something that makes spending Valentine’s Day single sting. It can just be a matter of not getting anything that makes you feel treasured. Hosting a gift exchange among gal pals is a great way to boost spirits and also remind each other of the importance of sisterhood.
- Attend a murder mystery dinner together. Unlike Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s Day doesn’t have to have romantic vibes about it in the least bit. If anything, it can be more about the wild and wacky than anything else. A murder mystery dinner party is a great way to avoid the romantic BS and have a hoot while doing it!
- Blaze a trail. Love the woodsy-outdoorsy thing? Galentine’s Day can be a perfect reason to hit up a local park and check out all the wintry beauty of Mother Nature. Grab those cute hiking boots and a camera for extra Instagrammy fun.
- Do a DIY poetry slam. Are you and your friends artsy? Going full Jack Kerouac on Galentine’s Day with your pals is a great way to flex those creative muscles and maybe come up with a couple of good zingers about bad dates.
- Karaoke it up. Did you know that singing helps release the feel-good bonding chemical known as oxytocin? It’s true, and that might be what makes singing so much fun. Going to a karaoke bar with your friends is a great way to feel great and also make some pretty awesome memories.
- Mosh it out at a rock concert. There’s something about raising your middle finger to Valentine’s Day mush that is so liberating. Going to a mosh-ready metal show with your fellow metalhead vixens is a good way to do it, if you’re a fan of those guitar riffs!
Volunteer. Valentine’s Day is known for celebrating romantic love, but what about celebrating love for other things? Tons of organizations need volunteers with big hearts to help improve the lives of others or just help clean up the world. If you want to spread some love, this is a great way to do it.
