How to Get Your Power Back From a Narcissist

Are you tired of being controlled by a self-loving arrogant partner? Come on board as we take you through essential tips that would help you get your power back from someone who doesn’t care about you.

Narcissists are dangerous people. Not because they carry weapons, but because they infect every other person around them with this sick feeling of worthlessness that makes you feel like you are not worth a lovely jug of a milkshake.

They shake you down and make you feel inferior, bring your spirit down until you begin to see yourself as a piece of crap whenever you are around them. However, you can break away from this oppression when you realize that you are under the control of a narcissist. These set of people are good at controlling you and taking away the joy in your life. The following tips will help you get back your power from a narcissist.

Acknowledge the Truth and Forgive Yourself

This forms the first step to get your power back. Accept that you were used and the person took advantage of your innocence and ignorance to hurt you intentionally. The pain you suffer helps you move further away from your abuser. You were manipulated through the good qualities you had. Your openness, desire to know, empathy and sociability, were all used against you.

Conduct Self-Inquiry

The period of abuse offers you the opportunity for self-inquiry and personal growth. You look at some of the weaknesses you have overlooked in your naivety. This practice is not as easy as it sounds and it is why many people never benefit from what they went through. They fail to get the change they desire even though they needed it so much. You cannot have a real difference without a deep self-check. You must wake from your prison of narcissism and abuse.

Need for Security

You might have missed it from childhood, and it is affecting you so badly now. A father provides and protects the family, and that is evident in all his actions. Perhaps the absence of a father figure in your life made you vulnerable. Without this form of protection, you face the world unprepared.

Need for Adoration

When we are often ignored by parents, we grow up timid and lacking in self-confidence. Our love-starved nature causes us to fall for the lies of abusive narcissists who take advantage of our lack.

Need for Acknowledgment

Despite our achievements or accomplishments, we often go about needing an acknowledgment from other people. We are most concerned with the opinion people hold about us and it makes us sad if we do not get good remarks. This is due to an embedded feeling of worthlessness which we can conquer through self-talk. Talk to yourself until you do not need anybody’s acknowledgment.

Shift Your Focus

Sometimes, your experience can overwhelm you and pull you back into the nasty painful of the past. It is a call to critically process your emotions. Create time to do this, but don’t get detached from enjoying the present and looking to the future. Bring your dreams to life again and discover your life purpose. Finding out why you fell for your abuser makes you see yourself as a hero, not a victim. Getting healed from your narcissistic experience can turn out to make you whole, integrated, self-loving and self-confident person.

Listen Often

Your inner voice is your best guide, and it can lead you even in the midst of all the confusion and pain in your life. People fall prey to narcissistic persons for different reasons, and you were as helpless as everyone else. Manipulative people are everywhere, and their goal is to fulfill their wish and careless of what others suffer.

You must not continue living under the weight of such guilt and pain. You must rise and take your destiny in your hands. Listen to your inner voice, especially when you have a choice to make. If you are not sure, only don’t take action yet. By developing your inner voice this way, you will gain control over your life, become positive, and be in harmony with your goals and desires.
