Gone are the days when masquerade weddings were considered absolutely insane, barbaric, and unconventional. In 14th century France, masquerade weddings took place to celebrate the marriage of a lady in waiting for the French royalty. That’s to show you that masquerade weddings long existed, even though it was reserved for the high borns and men of repute (royalty). It’s becoming more of a thing these days as more people are clamoring to have a masquerade wedding themed party.

What if you don’t know what to wear? If it’s your first time attending, you are likely going to be asking yourself this question. There is nothing as bad as and more embarrassing than wearing the wrong kind of outfit to an event. You will look like an alien and may even end up being the topic of the day at the other end. If you are in limbo about what to wear to a masquerade wedding, worry no more. This article is for you.

While others may worry about what type of dress to wear to a masquerade wedding, others are bothered about colour combinations, type of masks to wear, etc.

So this is what you should know about masquerade wedding wears. The key is to dress simple if you are going for the first time. Nothing out of the ordinary. If you are not a newbie when it comes to attending masquerade weddings, then, you should know better that the wrong color combinations can go a long way in damaging your beautiful and elegantly designed outfit.

Before you step out to that event, you have to know the following.

Dress Code

Pretty embarrassing to wear white while the dress code was clearly stated all black. A dress code is a way of ensuring that everyone is uniformly dressed. At least, 90 – 95% dressed in the same way. If a wedding has no dress code, then you should clearly understand that wearing a black tuxedo and any color of mask will be more suitable.

If you will be coming with your partner, make sure that your dress compliments hers. Colors should tally, and the type of mask should also tally.

Masks

Masks are indispensable in masquerade weddings. It can be conveniently said that there are even more important than the dress itself. Your choice of dress will determine the type and color of wedding mask you should put on. It can be hard selecting the right combination, but even if it means trying out every single one you lay your hand on, just to get the right fit, do it.

From Natalia metal mask, Kristine Lazer cut metal masquerade eye mask, venetian masquerade mask to Cortina venetian wedding mask. Masquerade feather masks, Mardi Gras masks and beads, couples masquerade masks to Zakarro metal mask, the number and types just keep going.

What type of dress should a man wear to a masquerade wedding?

For most men, a black or blue tuxedo dress with a black bow tie will suffice. As for the masks, anyone would go with it as far as it’s matching. The color should be white or black to compliment the dress. Just don’t forget to add a broche.

A blue, white or black blazer jackets will also be good. Add your black or white mask and you are good to go. How about a three-piece black or blue suit? Well, that is another excellent choice of a dress for a masquerade wedding event.

If you want to wear anything other than a tuxedo and a blazer jacket, a simple ash or black colored vest or jacket on a black trouser with a long slim tie would do as well. It’s simple and less formal when compared to the tuxedo or blazer jackets, but it still looks good anyway.

You know those tailcoats worn in the “Greatest Showman” movie? Well, if you love to dress like they did, you can rock this kind of dress with a top hat and a walk stick. This dress would definitely push you to the front covers of every celebrity magazine around.

What type of dress should a woman wear to a masquerade wedding?

For women, it’s a little bit complicated. A lot of things are factored into how their dresses should be and how it is to be worn. Not to talk of makeups, ornaments, lipsticks, and several other things that will compliment their beauty and dress.

Most ladies would opt for a gown, whether it’s a short one, skimpy or a long one. If as a woman you love to go all out in one color, a red flowing gown, a red mask with some red makeup and lipstick will suffice. Depending on your complexion, if you deem this as to bright for your skin, you can tone it down a little with something darker. So, instead of a red gown, you opt for blue or even black and follow it up with the corresponding makeup. A white venetian mask would also be good on the blue gown if you can’t find a blue mask.

How about dressing in some “men in black” suits? It’s pretty awkward for a woman to dress like this to a masquerade wedding event unless you want to make it to the headlines. However, style and choices differs.

Besides that, you can wear a suit with skimpy skirts or culottes in lilac, instead of the “men in black” outfit. A white or lilac mask of any type would compliment it well.

When it comes to masquerade weddings, you should be extremely careful with your type of outfit. The mask is equally important because that’s the purpose of why it’s called a masquerade wedding in the first place.
